Linking Primer
Let's try to
think how anybody can visit a website. Fundamentally, there are only two
ways:
-
They (know or somehow
find out, and) directly type the website address in their browsers
-
They find a web page
that has a link to another site and click this link to reach the site
It can be readily imagined
that the number of people directly typing a web address in their browsers
would be minimal so it is obvious that most people visit websites by
following links or, conversely, websites get most of their visitors by way
of inbound links.
Links pointing from other websites
to yours are like digital bridges connecting your website to the rest of
the Internet. Without
links pointing to it, your website is nothing but an isolated digital
island
